Harper's second novel about the Silent--telepaths who communicate through dreams, as in Australian aboriginal myths--takes former slave Kendi Weaver to the Silent haven, the planet Bellerophon. It isn't a paradise for him, and only partly because he has to adjust to being free and surrounded by fellow Silent. A serial killer is on the loose, and Weaver is quickly sucked into the manhunt. That involves entering the victims' dreams, and as the killer continues terrorizing and torturing, Weaver's consequent experience of those dreams endangers his sanity.
